| Evaluation of Squire Players
at Southern Invitational |

|
Lenny Daniels (2008, 6-8 SF/PF)
This long, thin forward was one of the more impressive players of the weekend.
He is a terrific transition player who uses his speed, length and leaping
ability to score with ease. The face up forward is very active on the offensive
end. When he is not blowing by defenders off the dribble, Lenny can be found
battling inside for offensive rebounds. Because he always in constant motion,
he has a knack for finding the ball. That also leads him to frequent trips
to the free throw line. Lenny had one of the more explosive plays of the
weekend with a drive and vicious throw down. He also showed he can play some
with his back to the basket as he used a spin move to score in the post.
Lenny is a fantastic player and no doubt a high major prospect.
James Tyler (2008, 7-2 C)
James is a massive player. He’s tough to keep off the boards or away
from the basket. His size combined with solid hands and good touch around the
basket makes him quite the prospect. James is somewhat slow and dominates more
with power than speed. His conditioning could certainly use improvement and
will likely go a long way towards determining how good he becomes.
James Mills (2008, 5-11 PG)
James is a quick, penetrating guard. He’s more of a scoring point that
a distributor. He showed he’s capable of hitting the three point shot
as well as a slashing to the hoop.
Karron Johnson (2009, 6-8 SF)
Karron is a well built and very long forward. He plays on the wing a lot. He
has the ability to knock down the three point shot. Karron also can beat
his man off the dribble and finish in the lane. He’s a tough match-up
because of his size and skill level.

7'2" Baby Shak gives a verbal commitment
to LSU. |
October.
16 2006 |
It
looks like LSU assistant coach Butch Pierre is more than
making up for the fact that LSU didn't land a single player
in last year's recruiting class, as the Tigers have yet
another player in the fold this fall. This time we're talking
about 7'2 Jr James Tyler from Lenoir (Patterson School)
NC, who is ranked #23 nationally in the junior class by
the HOOP SCOOP and was ranked #57 overall and #11 at the
center position by the HOOP SCOOP at the Reebok ABCD Camp.
Tyler is a physical specimen with soft hands, excellent
skills, a good hook shot, and surprising mobility for somebody
who is 330 pounds. So it's fitting that this guy who they
call "Baby Shaq" would want to follow in the
footsteps and attend that the same school that the original
Shaq attended from 1989 to 1991. And, if Tyler keeps working
on his mobility, agility, and coordination and continues
to improve his conditioning, he could have the same type
of potential as Shaquille O'Neal. Remember, big men develop
late and this is especially good news for LSU head coach
John Brady, who already has lost one big man (Tyrus Thomas)
early to the NBA Draft and probably will lose another one
(Glen Davis) next spring.

| Memo
from a former SQUIRE player" |
Sept.,
9, 2005 |
Tony,
I just found your website, and I wanted
to write you after all these years to say thank you.
Playing AAU ball for your program taught me many lessons
about life and hard-work. I have no doubt that the experience
has helped me in my education and career.
After graduating Monacan in 1994, I went
to West Point where I graduated in 1998. I never tried
out for the basketball team there, but I could compete
with members of the team anytime we had an open gym.
After West Point, I was in the Army for five years, and
I went to business school at the University of South
Carolina--graduating with an MBA in 2003. Following business
school, I decided that I wanted to be a lawyer so I enrolled
in law school in DC at GWU where I will graduate next
year. I plan to stay in DC, and I already have a job
with a firm that I will start after graduation. I only
mention the things that I have done, because I truly
feel that you and Coach Bynum helped connect with me
as a teenager the importance of an education.
Well, one of these days, I hope to see
you when I am passing through Richmond. I still try to
follow the careers of some of my old teammates like Darren
Sharper and Mike Curtis. If you ever see any of those
guys I used to play with, please tell them hello. Keep
doing great things in Richmond.
Take care,
Jeff
