A Squire icon
for the past 11 years, Coach Reggie "Mac" McFarland is
a man of many skills and abilities. The Brooklyn, New York native
has centered his life on helping others. As a graduate of Franklin
Roosevelt HS, he did not play high school basketball but this did
not stop him from becoming a playground legend in Brooklyn. Playing
for Brooklyn USA, coach "Mac" gained fame as being the
super shooter. He also earned all-star status at the world famous
Rucker League and West 4th St. Pro Classic. It was through these
summer league feats that he caught the eye of a college recruiter
from Miami Dade North Community College and a scholarship was offered.
After two years at Miami Dade, he accepted a scholarship to St.
Augustine College in Raleigh, NC. His long-range shooting skills
are still remembered throughout the CIAA and CIAA Tournament circles.
Upon graduating
from St. Augustine College with a BS in Business / Management, he
relocated to Richmond, VA and married his college sweetheart, Annette
Harris. The McFarland's have been married for 16 years and have
two beautiful daughters, Chloe 14 and Bianca 8. Coach "Mac"
has been employed by the Chesterfield, VA Juvenile and Domestic
Court Services as a Youth Supervisor for the past 16 years.
Coach "Mac"
is the coach of the Squire 17U team and also serves as coordinator
of college recruiting for the Squire organization. He's also the
9th grade coach and assistant JV and Varsity coach at Meadowbrook
High School. During the last three years the 9th grade team has
gone undefeated. It is a known fact in the coaching profession that
no one works the officials like coach Mac.
Little known
facts about Coach "Mac". He is a part time radio personality
with Magic 105.7 FM. Mac is also quite a DJ and show promoter. He
has worked as a DJ with nationally known performers Eddie Murphy
(Raw Tour), Biggie Smalls, LL Cool J and Tupac Shakur.
Tony Squire
states, "Coach Mac is one of the most dedicated and caring
persons that has ever been part of the Squire organization. Players,
coaches and parents have the utmost respect for him."
