Mentoring Squire Players
The Squires have
spent numerous hours mentoring its’ youth outside
of basketball to assist in developing the complete individual.
The program emphasizes the importance of developing positive
character and achieving higher education. At the end of
the day, our players will have to perform in areas outside
of sports. The Squires work to ready its’ youth
for a holistic future.
Congrats
Erik
Congrats to Squire
Erik Moody and his team Benedictine High School for winning
the Div I State Championship. Freshman Erik Moody started
as a freshman and led his team to a state championship.
Erik has demonstrated great poise and represented the Squires
Basketball program to the best.
Congrats, Coach Allen & Evangel Christian
School
We
would like to congratulate Evangel Christian School. Squire
Coach Marquis Allen led the Eagles to a State Championship.
Coach Allen is definately one of the yourngest, if not
the youngest coach in Virginia to ever win a State Championship
during his first year. Evangel Chrisitian Eagles had a
very successful and dominate season. Making history the
Eagles were the first private school in their area to ever
win a state championship. Squire players James Ford, Michael
Gbinije, Calvin Procise, and George Best were key contributors
of to the success of the program. Freshman Michael Gbinije
led the team with 26 points, 5 assits, 6 rebounds, and
3 steals. Eight grader James Ford, Jr. added 17 points,
8 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Calvin Procise and
George Best were also very important to the success of
the team providing fierce defense, and rebounding. Calvin
'Cj' Procise also another 8th grader that has played with
poise the entire year. George Best was 'Mr. Intangible'.
His presence was felt in about every category of the game.
Again congratulations to the Evangel Christian Eagles.

Squire
player is among nation's best players
Eighth-grader among nation's best
The Courtland boys basketball team already boasts one of
the top sophomores in the country in 6-foot-8 forward Josh
Hairston.
Now their junior varsity team is led by 6-foot-4 eighth-grader
Justin Anderson, who is considered by some recruiting services
as one of the top five players in his grade level in the
country.
Anderson is a Spotsylvania Middle School student. His
family had to submit a letter to the Spotsylvania school
administration so that he could bypass middle school basketball
and play junior varsity.
He's been an asset for the Cougars (11-1), averaging 12.0
points per game and providing highlight-reel dunks that
have kept spectators arriving early for varsity contests.
Courtland varsity coach J.T. Nino is already excited about
pairing Hairston and Anderson next season.
"I do expect him to see a lot of time on the varsity
level next year," Nino said.
Nino said Anderson plays every position for the JV Cougars.
He's also proven he can compete with the elite players
around the country.
He was the only eighth-grader in the nation invited to
the Fab Frosh All-American Camp in Chantilly last summer.
The Web site hoopsreport .com described Anderson as "very
bouncy, aggressive to the bucket, and tries to dunk everything
in sight."
"If he continues to develop his overall game, this
kid could be special," the Web site reported.
Top Basketball Players
& Nutrition
Each and every day numerous athletes
fall to injuries due to a lack of nutrition. Are student
athletes maintaining a balanced diet? Accord to Murray
and Horswill (1977) we need 40 different nutrients
to function
properly. As an athlete it is important to maintain
healthy growth, weight control, healthy immune function,
optimize
metabolism, and maintain the growth of all tissues.
Parents, is your student athlete eating a balanced
meal each day
to optimize their athletic ability or are they the
next injury
to happen due to a lack of nutrition? See what nutrition they
need and what they should steer clear of.
