One thing that makes Squire’s outstanding in
Boys AAU Basketball it the time and dedication given to building positive
relationships with colleges and universities throughout the United
States. October 14-16, 2011 was the first of several annual trips to
visit colleges and universities. Tony Squire and Coach Tuck headed
north to Connecticut to visit university campuses and meet and speak
not only with the Men’s Basketball coaches but also with academic
personal. The purpose of these annual visits is to build relationships
in order to put Virginia players on the scholarship radar throughout
the country.
The October trip began at the University of Connecticut; the 2011 NCAA
Men’s Basketball Champions, “Midnight Madness” was
the first of many events and practices Squire and Tuck visited.
Squire’s history with U Conn includes Ray Allen, NBA All Star
of the Boston Celtics, and Ricky Moore, starting point guard in the
1999 National Championship team, and currently Assistant Men’s
Basketball Coach at Dartmouth University. On to the University of Hartford
where after watching the men’s basketball practice, Tony Squire
was invited to speak to the team. Tony spoke to the men’s team
about giving it your all, working hard, not taking life for granted,
and being thankful for the blessings you are given. Tony shared many
stories of people he has known and worked with throughout his 20+ years
in AAU Boys Basketball. The last two schools visited were Quinnipiac
University in Hamden, Connecticut and Yale University, where Squire’s
own son is a student.
This is what makes the Squire’s Boys Basketball Education Foundation
one of the most respected programs in the country. Tony Squire and
his staff gives much of their time to building relationships with colleges
and universities, coaches, and the academic faculty in order to provide “Virginia
kids” scholarships and the opportunities provided through a college
education.
